Masked enigma Snuffo (Benedikt Schmidt) has carved a unique path in electronic music for many years. His journey reflects a relentless pursuit of artistic expression, unfazed by trends or fleeting acclaim.
Born in 1981, Snuffo’s musical exploration began in the mid-90s. Today, this Majorca-based German artist wears multiple hats: he’s the driving force behind the acid house duo Snuff Crew, the head of the Snuff Trax and In The Dark Again labels, and the creator of experimental soundscapes and video installations under the name Cellarkalt. Under his real name, he writes prose and poetry, too.
Schmidt’s productions and remixes as Snuffo have appeared on a wide range of respected international labels. Yet it is the raw energy of live performance that truly fuels his passion. He has brought his electrifying live sets to renowned clubs and cities across the globe. The pandemic served as a catalyst for artistic evolution; his sound has evolved into a potent blend of techno and electro, defined by raw, fast-paced intensity and a nostalgic reverence for the old-school spirit.
This shift also extends to his live setup. Ditching the computer, Snuffo now embraces the vivid language of drum machines, synthesizers, and samplers. This hardware-driven approach allows him to translate his musical ideas with unfiltered honesty, capturing the essence of the moment and giving way to spontaneous yet finely crafted, audience-driven musical tapestries.
