Ghetto / Techno / Rave

Its roots are in the jungle and drum and bass, that pure and undiluted sound that emerged from London and Barcelona.

When it comes to rave culture, there aren’t many artists who are as passionate and dedicated as Manu. The Spaniard is the mastermind behind one of the capital’s most infamous party brands, an event he has used to cultivate an unmistakable sound, attracting a loyal and dedicated following in the process.

Manu still stays true to many of the aspects of UK rave culture that made him so special and brings them to his current production in Barcelona. So whether you’re DJing, doing gigs, finding new music venues in town or hosting another crowded planetary event or letting loose on the dance floor, you can be sure that you’re always fueled by a desire to perpetuate the culture that changed his life.

When he was a teenager in early 2012, Manu was just as dedicated to the dance floor as he is now. His first rave was at the legendary Cable very close to the also legendary Crucifix lane (London), where cult raves were held regularly. Manu’s experiences there left an indelible impression on him; from the power of music and sound systems, to the experience of being connected to a diverse yet unified crowd. This formed the basis of his current ethos; maintaining an equal balance between 1) music and sound, 2) community, and 3) the setting and the nightclub itself. These three central aspects are the pillars of Planetaria, Simplexia BCN, Breakfast Musik and the Manu rave philosophy and, without a doubt, what has made it so successful in the Barcelona music scene.

Event planning, making shit happen.

UROZ

Uroz may be a supercool resident DJ at Barcelona’s Moog but he works techno like a Swiss craftsman in search of a clock with a 4/4 time signature and hands that never run slow despite the passing years. There are people we can call a thoroughbred DJs – artists “born to the beat,” who know how to interpret what is happening in every corner of the room and have no doubt about which way to go to keep the audience moving together in the same direction. Uroz is one of these. His techno, distilled through experience and built up strongly by the demanding daily rhythm of working a resident, fits into a panorama that covers all kinds of music: indie, acid house, EBM, post-punk, the other kind of electronica and even the dub version of the B-side of some forgettable record. Because a DJ does not live by techno alone, although the rest of us would happily live off the propositions he keeps in that suitcase of his.
