In the mid-nineties, electronic music was gaining lasting popularity in Barcelona and, in line with the new times, Mas i Mas decided to expand its range of entertainment with a club where all those new sounds could be heard. That is how the Moog Electronic Dancing Club was born: a new venue in the heart of El Raval (a stone’s throw from Les Rambles and the Plaça Reial). Although it was clearly looking to the future, it also recovered a classical institution from the days of Barcelona’s Chinatown (the mythical Villa Rosa) and the tradition of the “Dancings” (forerunners of modern clubs). Under expert DJ Loe and with a daily opening policy (from Monday to Sunday), the Moog quickly became an essential part of Barcelona’s nightlife – a Mecca for those who enjoy dancing to utterly electronic and synthetic rhythms.
It has become our flagship and its fame quickly crossed borders as it became a must-visit for DJs and producers from around the world. Many established names made their first appearance (either in Spain or in Catalonia) in the Moog booth, giving the public the chance to enjoy lots of different approaches. The size of the venue makes the sessions unique and unpredictable, and club-goers can enjoy big names in electronic music such as Jeff Mills, Laurent Garnier, DJ Hell, Richie Hawtin, James Holden and Josh Wink in an almost intimate atmosphere. Ever since it opened in 1996, the Moog has stood out from the rest for its comprehensive, top-class programming, including both local and foreign names and sets by well-established and emerging DJs. The long-lasting popularity of this approach is testament to its success, and, today, Moog continues to offer programming as fresh and exciting it did when it opened in 1996.
